Appeal outcome: Moghees Ahmed

An Independent Sports Resolution Appeal Sole Arbitrator (‘the Arbitrator’) has issued his decision dismissing an Appeal brought by Mr Moghees Ahmed against the findings of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal of the Cricket Discipline Commission (‘CDC’) from January 2025.

Mr Ahmed appealed against the liability decision on the grounds that the CDC had reached a decision on the evidence that no reasonable tribunal could have made and had misdirected itself as a matter of law as to the interpretation of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

Both grounds of Appeal were dismissed by the Sole Arbitrator who said that the findings arrived at by the Tribunal were reached after careful examination of the evidence and an assessment of the credibility of the complainant and Mr Ahmed. Further the Sole Arbitrator said that it had not misdirected itself as to the correct interpretation of the Code.

Managing Director of the Cricket Regulator Chris Haward has commented “We welcome the decision of the Sole Arbitrator dismissing the appeal and upholding the decision of the CDC. The decision of the Arbitrator reinforces the position that the actions of Mr Ahmed can correctly be described as corrupt conduct. The Cricket Regulator will ensure that where there is corrupt conduct suspected it will be investigated and those responsible held to account.
